King of the Mountains-Rafal Majka

By Tony Olejnicki

Rafal Majka 25 years old Polish rider is undoubtedly 2016 Tour’s King of the Mountains. The pro since 201, he is a very durable climber and stage racer with his favourite races Tour de France and  Vuelta a España

This was Tinkoff-Saxo statement in 2015: “The 25-year-old Polish Rafal Majka is considered as one of the greatest talents in the world of cycling. The young, slim climber is a natural in mountainous terrain and, if he plays his cards right, Rafal will soon be a contender in the big Grand Tours.”

He did tremendously well in the Vuelta a España, one of his favourite races, as a loyal and strong teammate of Alberto Contador and came to prominence at the Tour de France 2014 with two solo stage wins in the high mountains and the overall title as King of the Mountains.

Rafal has gained valuable experience during the past two Giros’ d’Italia in ’13 and ’14, where he has aimed for a top result in the GC. In 2014 he finished sixth despite battling with illness during the last crucial week. After the success at the Tour he went on to win two stages and the overall classification on home turf at the World Tour race Tour de Pologne, where he dominated the race in the mountains.

The prediction of Tinkoff-Saxo is clearly coming through in 2016 Tour de France. We can see his talent, experience and determination demonstrated by his results in the mountains. He is undisputed king of the mountains with 173 points and 83 points ahead of next Belgian rival De Gent.

Like his gladiator funky rocker buddy Peter Sagan, Rafal is very talented rider and very committed to his talent. Polish background shines through him with ambition, modesty and commitment to the success. With these two talented riders and many in their shadow, there maybe era of Slavic domination on the cards.
